From Apple to the Aegean:

Why I returned to Greece to build defense tech.

Dimitris Kottas is perhaps the most recognizable Greek figure in today’s defense-tech space: a robotics researcher who spent time in Silicon Valley before returning to Greece to build a European defense-tech company with global ambitions.

Together with Marco Veremis, he discusses his experience in Silicon Valley, the technological shifts in the defense industry, and how Greece can emerge as a new hub in the evolving European defense ecosystem.

Dimitris Kottas is the co-founder and CEO of Delian Alliance Industries, a company based in Athens and London that develops advanced autonomous surveillance systems, unmanned aerial and maritime vehicles, and sensor technologies with applications in both defense and civil protection.

He holds a degree from the University of Patras and completed his Master’s and PhD studies at the University of Minnesota. During his academic career, he focused on robotics, multi-sensor data fusion (sensor fusion), and navigation in GPS-denied environments, earning significant recognition for his research contributions.

Before founding Delian, he worked at Apple, where he was part of teams developing advanced autonomous systems technologies. There, he specialized in environmental perception and autonomous platform navigation.
