Marco Veremis - Every leader would be wise to "walk" on the values of Aristotle Marco Veremis, Chairman of SEV's Innovation Committee and Partner at Big Pi Ventures shares his thoughts on what defines effective leadership today. According to Marco, leaders steer people forward and through their team’s success they also grow personally and professionally. He discusses the concept of the effective team drawing conclusions from the elite military unit Sacred Band (Ieros Lochos) of ancient Greece. He also explores the notion that leadership is a privilege, but also an obligation to constantly improve oneself. To this end, every leader would be wise to 'walk' on Aristotle's values: courage, empathy, fairness, and measure. The speech was given at the 35th Leadership Conference of the Association of Chief Executive Officers (ΕΑΣΕ), held on 7 & 8 June 2024. |

Greek Apeiron Ventures made their first investment from their new seed investment fund in Circuland, a London-based circular economy startup. The amount of the pre-seed round is totaling €750K, with the participation of Astylab Ventures. San Francisco-based resolve.ai, with Greek DNA, being the brainchild of Greek serial tech entrepreneur Spyros Xanthos raised a $35 million funding round in less than one year in operations. The list of investors includes LinkedIn founder Reid Hoffman, Google's head of scientific affairs Jeff Dean, Open AI's head of engineering Srinivas Narayanan, Amazon Web Services CEO Matt Garman, Stanford professor Fei-Fei Li, and Accenture CTO Paul Daugerty. EdenCore, a pioneering agri-tech company, announces an investment of €400,000 from Uni.Fund II, which will be used to further develop its AI solutions in the agricultural sector and enter the European market. This investment supports EdenCore's mission to help growers manage diseases and reduce costs use; fertilizers and pesticides. Simpler has raised €9M in new funding from VentureFriends, MMC Ventures, Lamda Development, VGC, and others. This latest investment will help us take our unified, one-click checkout solution to the next level as we expand into key European markets, including the UK, Italy, and Spain. FlexThis, an innovative bicycle rental and sales platform and spin-off of bFlex, has successfully completed a first round of €198,000 in funding, which was organized with the support of Investing for Purpose (IFP). This funding includes the participation of Helidoni Group, Coco-Mat.bike, Boxo and a group of angel investors. It marks a significant step forward in FlexThis' mission to reduce transport-related pollution in Greece through sustainable e-mobility solutions. |

Telecoms operators are leading the way, OTE with one of the largest investment programmes, Nova and Vodafone, while ΔΕΗ is entering the network and data centre market. Thrace Plastics Group, a leading force in the food packaging industry in Southeast Europe, and the circular economy pioneer Coffeeco Upcycle, join forces to recycle coffee bean waste through the Group's environmentally targeted platform, "In the Loop". ΔΕΗ participates in the innovative research project intelWATT, in the framework of the development of research and innovation activities, recently completing the pilot installation of the Cooling Tower discharge water recovery at Unit 5 of Megalopolis NPP. The intelWATT research project, "Intelligent Water Treatment Technologies for water preservation combined with simultaneous energy production and material recovery in energy intensive industries", is funded by the EU's HORIZON 2020 programme and aims to develop water treatment technologies and apply them in industrial environments to increase recycling and savings. Bayer Hellas and the innovative start-up Dataphoria announce their new strategic partnership in ESG (Environment, Society, Governance) data analysis and evaluation. This collaboration aims to strengthen the monitoring and management of Bayer Hellas' sustainability goals, as well as to enhance transparency and accountability in its business activities.
